Shubman Gill rises to top of ICC ODI batting rankings

In a major development in the ICC Men’s ODI batter rankings, star Indian batter Shubman Gill has replaced ace Pakistan batter Babar Azam for the number 1 spot in the rankings. Gill rose to the top following his performances in the ODI World Cup 2023.

Furthermore, he became only the fourth player from India, after Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, and Virat Kohli, to hold the No. 1 ODI batter ranking. Scoring 219 runs in six innings in the ODI World Cup 2023 so far, Gill has been in good form for team India, and with Babar dropping six ranking points in the ratings, his reign at the top came to an end after more than two years.

Currently, Gill sits at the top with 830 rating points, with Babar Azam sitting in second with 824 points. Furthermore, there has been a big shakeup in the top 10 of the rankings as well. As Quinton de Kock sits in third place, ace Indian batter Virat Kohli jumped up three places and now sits in fourth with 770 points, and is within touching distance of De Kock, thanks to his sensational performances at the World Cup 2023.

Indian batter Shreyas Iyer also jumped 17 places and now sits in 18th in the rankings, with Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman going up three spots to 11th.

The ODI bowling rankings witnessed some shakeups as well

As far as the ICC ODI bowling rankings go, some players made their names known as well. After brilliant performances in recent games, Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj regained his place as the No. 1 bowler in the rankings. He is followed by South African spinner Keshav Maharaj, who is right on his tail.

Furthermore, Indian spinner Kuldeep Yadav jumped three places to fourth, with Bumrah making a similar jump to eighth place, and with Mohammed Shami occupying the 10th spot, it makes up for four Indian bowlers in the top 10 rankings.
