Road Safety World Series 2021: All you need to know about Bangladesh Legends

The inaugural edition of the Road Safety World Series, which had been aborted midway because of the COVID-19 pandemic. is now finally set to complete its course. The T20 tournament will now begin on March 5th and will be played at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium in Raipur.

With the addition of the England Legends, now the tournament comprises six teams perhaps also including the Bangladesh Legends who would rather be replacing the Australia Legends. The event is an initiative taken by the Road Safety cell of Maharashtra, with India Legends skipper Sachin Tendulkar being the ambassador and the former Indian legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar being the commissioner.

By being the new entrant alongside England Legends, the Bangladesh Legends team comprises a 14-member squad. The squad almost hallmarks a breed of retired cricketers who mostly had represented their national team in the decade of 2000s mainly in bits and pieces.

Batsmen

For opening the batting, the squad does include three fitting right-handed batters in the form of Nafees Iqbal, Hannah Sarkar and Javed Omar. Besides them the middle-order can actually be accompanied with a plethora of permutations and combinations wherein players like Mehrab Hossain, Rajin Saleh (all-rounder), wicket-keeper batsman Khaled Mashud and Nazimuddin can bat at any of the top five positions.

All-rounders

The squad contains plenty of part-time spinners. Batters like Mohammad Sharif and Rajin Saleh can chip in and bowl out the quota of the fifth bowler. Apart from them, one can expect the duo of Mohammad Rafique and Abdur Razzak to club out something with the bat. All in all, the team does lack a bona fide all-rounder who could have rigorously contributed in all three departments.

Bowlers

The bowling line-up involves six genuine frontline bowlers. For pace bowling, the team has infused two right arm medium speedsters (Khaled Mahmud and Alamgir Kabir) complementing the seam bowling of Mushfiqur Rahman. While the pace battery might not exhibit big names, what forms the crux is the presence of the two veterans left-arm orthodox spinner being Mohammad Rafique and Abdur Razzak.

Wicket-Keeper

For glove work, the team has acquired the services of wicket-keeper batsman Khaled Mashud who invariably can also be used as a floater in the batting order.

All in all, one might say that the team does look inferior and bleak but for Bangladeshi fans, the context might become an eventful affair especially by watching a generation of cricketers who had represented Bangladesh before its glory days.
