Rohit Sharma believes Suryakumar needs to protect his form

Suryakumar Yadav has once again shown why he’s the most exciting T20I batter going around as he struck a sensational knock against South Africa in the second T20I to steer India to a mammoth 237-run total.

There was no stopping the right hander as he blasted a 22-ball 61 that included five fours and five sixes. The wonderful performance put up by Suryakumar lit up the series victory for India.

Suryakumar became the third fastest Indian to score 1000 T20 international runs reaching the landmark in only 31 innings. Skipper Rohit Sharma too was in awe of his performance and could not hold back from praising his Mumbai Indians teammate.

Rohit Sharma gives interesting response on Suryakumar’s form

India comfortably won the fixture against Temba Bavuma’s South Africa played in Guwahati, it wasn’t a tantalising game unlike the first T20I match. Rohit heaped praise on Suryakumar’s form in his recent outings and mentioned how vital he is for the Men in Blue.

“How do you keep Surya’s form together? The form he is in… just protect it. How do you hold it together? Just thinking not to play him anymore. Just play him on 23rd. But no (seriously), the kind of form he is in… he is somebody who wants to play the game, who wants to keep going out there and keep doing well. That is what keeps him happy and we want to keep him happy,” said Sharma during the post-match presentation ceremony.

The right-handed batter’s innings along with vice-captain KL Rahul’s and Virat Kohli’s helped the side to put the Proteas under scoreboard pressure. While David Miller played a magnificent innings himself but was not backed up well from the other end.

Suryakumar has been in the form of his life and as the World Cup is just a few weeks away, India will be dependent on his services in the middle order.
