Team India, on Monday, September 6, defeated England by 157 runs in the fourth Test at the Kennington Oval by 157 runs. Subsequently, they also took a crucial 2-1 lead in the five-match Test series with one match remaining at the Old Trafford in Manchester.

On the fifth day’s play, India needed to get 10 wickets to get over the line while the Brits required under 300 runs. Haseeb Hameed and Rory Burns put on 100 runs for the opening wicket to put the Three Lions in command. From there on, Virat Kohli’s India went from strength to strength and bowled England out for 210 runs in the fourth innings. Barring Mohammed Siraj, the other Indian bowlers picked wickets in the last innings.

After the victory, former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly, also the BCCI president, said that the current bunch of Indian players knows the art of absorbing pressure. He also said that Team India are a country mile ahead of the rest of the teams in the world.

In the meantime, Michael Vaughan, the former England skipper, had a word or two to say about Team India as well. While he agreed that India are a great team in Test cricket, he also said that same is not the case in the limited-overs format.

Vaughan felt that India have a fair distance to travel to be the best team in ODIs and T20Is.

After the win, Virat Kohli, the Indian skipper, lauded his team for showing a lot of character. He praised the bowlers for standing up to the challenge and delivering under pressure.

“Well, I think the best thing about both the games has been the character the team has showed. We are not looking to survive in this game, we are here to win. Really proud of the character the team has showed. I said at Lord’s as well, I am proud of the character shown by the team, this is amongst the top three bowling performances I have witnessed as India captain,” Kohli said.
