The only IPL player to have batted all positions from 1 to 11 in IPL

Sunil Narine

Sunil Narine is considered a pinch-hitter, especially in the shortest format of the game. Narine also holds a unique record of batting at each and every position from 1 to 11 in the league. The 33-year-old Trinidadian made his debut in the cash-rich league in 2012 for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Since then, the bowling allrounder has been serving the same franchise.

Known for his mystery spin, Narine took the league by storm as he snared 24 scalps in his debut season itself in 2012. To put the icing on the cake, his side KKR also went on to win their maiden title in that edition. The right-arm off-break bowler continued his form in the next season as he took 22 wickets in the 2013 season. With 21 scalps in 2014, he again helped the Knight Riders in lifting their second IPL trophy.

With the bat in hand, Narine has been more than handy as he has also registered over 1000 runs in the tournament. He also has the second joint-fastest fifty to his name when he struck it in just 15 deliveries against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in 2017.

He is the only player to have batted in all positions from 1 to 11 in the league’s history. The left-handed batter has amassed 1003 runs in 145 matches at an average of 14.75 and a strike rate of 161.77. He has struck four half-centuries with the highest score of 75 in 83 innings.

Out of all the positions, Narine has enjoyed opening the batting to a great extent as he has 729 runs at a terrific strike rate of 175.66 in 39 innings as an opener. He has batted at no. four and no. five in seven innings each while at no. 8 and no. 9 in eight innings each. The KKR player has played on no. 3 and no. 6 spots once each. Narine came in to bat at no. 9 six times and thrice on no. 11 position. He has batted thrice on the seventh position in his IPL career.
