WATCH: Shreyas Iyer gets lucky as bails are not dislodged

Bangladesh and India locked horns in the first of the two-match Test series on December 14 (Wednesday). After opting to bat first, India lost their top three early. But Rishabh Pant’s cameo and then Shreyas Iyer and Cheteshwar Pujara’s brilliant partnership helped the visitors recover by the end of the day. However, during the day’s play, a strange incident took place that left everyone befuddled.

In the 84th over of the innings, pace bowler Ebadot Hossain managed to breach Iyer’s defence. The ball thudded into the stumps only for the bails to not dislodge at all. Interestingly, the bails moved from their position due to the impact but didn’t fall down according to the rules leading to the batter surviving a close shave.

Shreyas Iyer was on 77* when the incident took place and he ended the day unbeaten. He was also dropped on 67 by Ebadot in the deep and the man rode his luck on the day.

Here’s the video:

India end the day on 278/6

India ended the opening day of the first Test on 278/6 with Shreyas Iyer holding fort for the team unbeaten on 82. Cheteshwar Pujara was another star batter for India scoring 90 runs and was unlucky not to get to the three-figure mark. Axar Patel then did well to score 14 runs but Mehidy Hasan Miraz breached his defence on the last ball of the day to make it a decent day for Bangladesh.

Taijul Islam was the best bowler of the day for Bangladesh picking up three wickets for 84 runs after bowling one-third number of overs in the day. He would be hoping to scalp a five-fer now on the second day and skittle India out early.
