We do not want to rush things with Jasprit Bumrah this time: Chetan Sharma

BCCI has announced the squads for India’s bilateral series against New Zealand and Bangladesh post the ongoing T20 World Cup in Australia. While the young prodigious pacers Kuldeep Sen and Yash Dayal have been picked for the upcoming series, Jasprit Bumrah will sit out both bilateral competitions as chairman of selectors Chetan Sharma refrained from rushing him back into fitness.

The Men in Blue will engage in three T20Is followed by three ODIs in New Zealand, with the bilateral action commencing on November 18. The ODI series will begin on November 25. Former Indian cricketer and chairman of selectors Chetan Sharma gave an update on the injured fast bowling ace Jasprit Bumrah, who will be absent from both series. He assured that the star pacer will feature against Australia when they visit the subcontinent for a four-match Test series in February next year.

“He will definitely be part of the team for the Australia series. We do not want to rush things with him this time as we did before. So we’ve been cautious with him for the Bangladesh series,” Chetan Sharma said in a press conference ahead of the squad announcements.

It is worth noting that Jasprit Bumrah had made a return from injury in the T20I series against Australia earlier this year, only to sustain another injury, ruling him out of the ICC mega event.
