Women’s Cricket in Commonwealth Games 2022: All you need to know

T20 cricket is making its debut in Commonwealth Games in 2022 as Women’s Cricket gears up to leave a mark in the quadrennial multi-sporting event. The tournament will commence on the 29th of July and culminate with the final on the 7th of August, with all the games being hosted by Edgbaston, Birmingham.

This is the first time that cricket will feature in the CWG games since 1998, when the South African men’s team defeated Australia in an ODI final to clinch the Gold medal in Malaysia.

Format

The eight-team tournament will see 16 matches played across ten days. The teams have been divided into two groups of four. While Group A consists of Australia, India, Pakistan, and Barbados, Group B features England, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, and South Africa.

Each team will play against their group members once, and the top two teams from each group will qualify for the semi-finals. The winners of the semi-final will square up in the final, while the two losing semifinalists will lock horns in the bronze medal match.
