IPL 2020: DC vs SRH – Delhi captain Shreyas Iyer fined for slow over rate

DC

Delhi Capitals skipper Shreyas Iyer has been fined INR 12 lakhs for maintaining a slow over-rate in their match against the Sunrisers Hyderabad on Tuesday. The Capitals lost the match by 15 runs.

After winning the toss at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, Iyer put the Sunrisers in to bat first. Led by contributions from the top order, the Sunrisers posted a healthy total of 162/4 in their 20 overs. However, the Capitals made a mess of the chase, ultimately conceding their first defeat of the tournament. Iyer himself didn’t appear to be in great touch, scoring just 17 runs off 21 balls.

This is the Capitals’ first over-rate offence. It is also the second of the season, after Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli was fined for a similar offence against the Kings XI Punjab.

“As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr. Iyer was fined Rs 12 lakh,” an official release of the IPL stated.

With two wins in three matches, the Capitals have now slipped to second place on the points table. Their next match is against the Kolkata Knight Riders on Saturday (October 3) at Sharjah.
