We are going to learn from our mistakes: Rishabh Pant

Team India batter Rishabh Pant has pointed out the reason why England had an easier time with the bat than India during Day one of the third Test at the Headingley in Leeds. After electing to bat first, India were shot out for a paltry 78 after the hosts’ pace quartet ran through their batting lineup.

Pant, himself, looked jittery and in the end, got out to Ollie Robinson after scoring two off nine. Later, Roy Burns and Haseeb Hameed stayed unbeaten on half-centuries to make sure that the Three Lions ended the day with a lead of 42 runs and all their 10 wickets in hand.

Even as Pant said that using a heavy roller fizzled out the demons off the surface, the Indian batters could have shown a bit more resilience in challenging conditions. The left-hander also hoped that his team will make amends in the second innings of the ongoing encounter.

“Yeah, a little bit, but not much. They took the heavy roller so the wicket was much more settled down and they batted nicely also. When we batted in the first innings, the wicket was slightly soft and they bowled well and we could have applied ourselves better.

As I said before, we are going to learn from our mistakes and move on to the next innings,” Pant was quoted as saying in the post-day press conference.

Pant also expressed his disappointment by the crowd’s behaviour on Wednesday. A few members from the stands, reportedly, threw plastic bags at Mohammad Siraj, who was standing at the boundary. Pant stated that Siraj was “very upset” by the occurrence.

I think somebody threw the ball inside on Siraj and he was very upset. Yes, you can chant whatever you want but don’t throw things at the fielders. It’s not good for cricket,” Pant added.

Even in the 2020-21 Border Gavaskar Trophy, the pacer had to endure hostile crowd behaviour. Siraj had a tough day with the ball at Leeds. as he gave away 26 runs off seven overs without getting a wicket.
